Why are we having intimacy problems as newly married couple?

Short answer

Early intimacy problems are common — nerves, inexperience, pain, little privacy, or simply not knowing each other well yet. They’re usually very workable, especially when addressed early with patience and open conversation.

Why this happens

  • Anxiety about performing or doing it ‘right’.
  • Lack of sex education for both partners.
  • Pain or discomfort, especially early on.
  • Joint-family living with no privacy.
  • Different expectations about frequency.

What helps

  1. Talk openly and kindly about what’s difficult.
  2. Remove pressure and build touch slowly.
  3. Learn together — curiosity beats perfection.
  4. Create private time where you can relax.
  5. See a doctor for pain or erection difficulties.

When to see a doctor: pain, vaginismus or erection problems are common in new marriages and very treatable — please see a gynaecologist or doctor.
