Why doesn't my husband want me to touch him?

Short answer

When a husband pulls away from his wife’s touch, it’s usually linked to pressure, stress, shame or an unresolved hurt — not a lack of love. Touch can start to feel like a request he can’t meet, so he avoids it entirely.

Why this happens

  • Performance worry: touch may feel like it ‘leads somewhere’ he’s anxious about.
  • Stress or low mood can make any contact feel like too much.
  • Resentment from an unresolved conflict keeps the body closed.
  • Sensory or health reasons — pain, illness or simply being overstimulated.

What helps

  1. Offer touch that clearly asks for nothing — a hand on the shoulder, sitting close.
  2. Ask gently at a calm moment what touch feels good for him now.
  3. Look for any recent change — job stress, a health issue, a fight that never ended.
  4. If it continues for months, encourage a health check and consider a private session.

Does it mean he doesn’t love me?

Usually not. Avoiding touch is far more often about pressure, stress or shame than about love.

When to see a doctor: if he also has low energy, low mood or erection difficulties, encourage a doctor’s check — low testosterone, diabetes and depression are common, treatable causes.
