Is my husband not attracted to me after weight gain?

Short answer

Weight change is far less often the real reason than women fear. When a husband withdraws, stress, performance worry, routine or unspoken resentment are more common causes. Your own body confidence matters more to intimacy than the number on a scale.

Why this happens

  • Women tend to blame their bodies first, even when the cause lies elsewhere.
  • Feeling self-conscious can make you avoid closeness, which he may read as rejection.
  • Life changes that cause weight gain — children, stress, illness — also drain desire for both partners.
  • In some cases, a partner’s comments about weight are really about his own insecurity or control.

What helps

  1. Ask, don’t assume: “I’ve noticed we’re less close. Is something on your mind?”
  2. Work on how you feel in your body — clothes you like, movement you enjoy — for you, not for him.
  3. Notice whether he’s withdrawn in other ways too; that points to a cause beyond your body.
  4. If he criticises your body cruelly, that’s not about attraction — it’s about respect, and deserves to be addressed.

Can weight gain kill attraction in marriage?

It can affect it for some people, but attraction in long relationships depends far more on warmth, confidence, novelty and feeling wanted.
